"Everything Happens For A Reason", if you believe in this statement then you will find your self a victim of astrology, numerology and even religionology.
Numerology which is similar to astrology believes that everything happens for a reason and that your name is no accident because the numbers have the power in controling our lives. It reminds me of Jim carrey's movie " The Number 23", anyway back to the statement above which you've either said it or you've had someone say it to you in the middle of a difficult time.
"Everything happens for a reason" ,some people believe of that part and consider it as a true statement no matter how good or bad it is. They believe that there's always or usually a reason behind everything but the reason is not always the reason they hope for. Because it may not always be good.
What if someone lose his/her leg in an accident it could be because he/she was careless or because another driver was careless . It could be all of these things or it could be none of these things. Billions of tiny seemingly insignificant variables work in unison to determine our fate.
The question is why do so many of us in variably end up attributing these variable to the machinations of a higher powers?, by our very nature we struggle to find meaning and purpose in everything often where there's none.
I read a verse about this in the bible and it was " god causes all things to work together for good to those who are called according to his purpose", the verse does not say that every thing that happens to you is good for you because somehow god approve it. And it doesn't say that even in the worst situations of life god is at work to bring about good.
Even in the islamic texts it doesn't say that god causes everything that happens and approves it. The meaning is that god will work in everything that happens to bring some good from it. But of course there're so many conditions to this promise, to get it you have to work hard.
Sometimes something unpleasant and painful can actually be a part of god's plan to bring about some ultimate good, and sometimes god does initiate things that are unpleasant. But when god does it he's in fact working good in our lives. Who knows maybe god has something better in mind.
When you keep asking your self why a bad thing might happen to me. You should remember that god gave people something called free will. Which means he gave humanity the ability to choose how we live our lives. We can choose to do good or we can choose to do evil and most of the time god will not stop us.
It said that a man may ruin his chances by his own foolishness and then blame it on the lord. If you want god to stop certain things from happening then a line has to be drawn somewhere.
At the end, "everything happens for a reason" is something we use it to philosophize our life's circumstances, and in many cases it's the only thing left for us to hold on to, or so we think.
